Jane Austen’s Persuasion
An original adaptation by Laura Bultman and directed by Jessica Ammirati
This lesser known Austen novel follows the Elliot family, in particular headstrong middle-daughter, Anne, and her relationship with the dashing Captain Frederick Wentworth.
Going to Tahiti Productions brought their unique take on book-to-theater adaptation to this original stage version of Jane Austen’s charming classic Persuasion.
The play follows Anne Elliot, a 27-year-old woman of quiet integrity. Years earlier, she was persuaded by her family friend to break off her engagement to Frederick Wentworth, a penniless naval officer who loved her and whom she loved. When a now-wealthy Wentworth comes back into her life, Anne must navigate lingering feelings and social expectations for a second chance at love.
Using minimal staging, video projections, unique sound design, and English Country Dance, GTTP, brought sold out audiences back to Regency Era England and explored Jane Austen’s world.
